What Makes the Vortex Flow Meters From SIKA So Special?

We’re certain that you know about the general structure and the functioning of a Vortex flow meter. Today, I would like to give a more detailed insight into the VVX-type range of Vortex flow sensors from SIKA.

The Vortex flow meters made from plastic are available in the nominal diameters of DN15, DN20 and DN25. With larger nominal diameters, however, it is important for them to be a little more robust. We have therefore developed the nominal diameters DN32 and DN40 so that they are optionally available in brass or stainless steel.

All the nominal diameters are characterised by the fact that the sensor element is completely encapsulated and is not in direct contact with the measured medium. This means that possible contamination and damage due to water hammers are almost completely excluded, and the measuring performance is maintained throughout the lifetime of the product.

And speaking of the measuring performance: at SIKA, each Vortex flow sensor is compared and calibrated at several test points on a water test bench as part of the quality assurance steps which accompany the production. The installed micro-controller allows us to adapt the characteristic curve individually for each device, and to thereby reduce the measurement deviation and series scattering to a minimum. For you, this means that all the Vortex flow sensors from SIKA deliver almost equally accurate measurement results.

The micro-controller has an additional advantage, though. On the VVX type, it is possible to set approximately 60 software parameters, and the measurement can be adapted to customer-specific installation situations. This takes place at the SIKA test lab. At our test lab, we can integrate customer-specific pipework or entire hydraulic systems into the test bench and thereby optimise the measuring performance for the actual installation situation. Please feel free to contact us.

SIKA has more than 10 years’ experience with the Vortex measuring principle, and over 2 million of its Vortex flow meters are currently in use. We also develop our products further all the time.

We will soon be offering a new Vortex flow sensor in the DN20 nominal diameter. This flow meter will be characterised by an extended measuring range starting from 2 l/min, and even better accuracy. Learn more about our flow sensors for heat pumps.

We also have additional innovations planned for next year. Stay tuned!
