From a digital document to machine-readable calibration data

Connected calibration does not end with the measurement itself. What also matters is how calibration results are documented, transferred and processed in subsequent workflows. This is precisely where the Digital Calibration Certificate, or DCC for short, comes in.

Unlike a conventional paper or PDF calibration certificate, the DCC provides the relevant calibration data in a standardised, machine-readable XML structure. The underlying concept was developed under the leadership of Germany’s national metrology institute, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). It creates a uniform basis for exchanging calibration data digitally and processing it automatically.

With TP Premium temperature calibrators, the DCC is created directly from the stored calibration results. Core data as well as information on the laboratory, customer and calibration item can be selected and managed before the XML file is generated on the device and saved to a USB storage device.

This allows calibration data to be archived in a structured way, shared and, where required, integrated into CAQ, ERP or quality management systems. Manual data transfer and media discontinuities are reduced, while the data becomes easier to use in digital quality and test equipment processes.

The DCC function is available for TP Premium temperature calibrators from software version 30.58 onwards. Many existing devices manufactured from August 2022 onwards can be upgraded with a free software update.
