SIKA measuring technology for district heating stations

District heating, the supply of heat to provide buildings with heating and hot water, is becoming increasingly important as an energy source. District heating is generated in large power plants according to the principle of combined heat and power (CHP) as well as in smaller combined heat and power plants, in waste incineration plants or district heating plants. The possible fuel options are coal, natural gas, biogas, oil, wood and waste.

The thermal energy is transported in a thermally insulated pipe system. In this process, the medium of water is mainly used in a liquid state and transported in a continuous cycle. Typical operating temperatures for the flow in a district heating network operated with hot water are 80 to 130 °C at an operating pressure of 16 to 25 bar. The heat is transferred to the consumer by means of a transfer station. In most cases, the district heating circuit is hydraulically separated from the consumer circuit by a heat exchanger.

SIKA’s high-quality and durable measuring devices ensure that the operating temperatures and pressures within district heat transfer stations can always be precisely measured and monitored. The market leader among industrial thermometer manufacturers relies on its many years of experience. SIKA has been manufacturing measuring technology for heating and air conditioning applications in building services for many years. The company’s core applications include equipping district heat transfer station with mechanical temperature and pressure measuring technology, such as the SIKA industrial thermometer.

The SIKA industrial thermometer is regarded as a quality temperature measuring device with high accuracy and excellent value for money. The exceptionally long service life in particular distinguishes SIKA industrial thermometers from other thermometers. The instruments often remain in use for decades and thus prove to be excellent value for money.

For the district heating transfer station segment, SIKA manufactures special versions of the industrial thermometer, whose immersion tubes are welded directly in the system. The classic welding socket is not required, saving on one component. Should the glass thermometer have a mechanical defect such as a broken glass insert, this is instantly visible – unlike with dial thermometers. This makes it is possible to react in time.

SIKA industrial thermometers are extremely high quality. One advantage over thermometers of other manufacturers in the graduation burnt indissolubly onto the glass insert. Furthermore, the large measuring volume minimises ambient temperature errors and the special manufacturing process reduces stress in the glass. The high measuring accuracy, the use without electrical auxiliary power as well as the highly precise single piece testing are other special features of the SIKA industrial thermometer.
